Diary Entry of November 7, 1877

Overview

She wakes anxious about him, caught between concern and the vulnerability that comes with deep happiness. A pleasant outing helps lighten the day, and the evening reading of Constantin Frantz proves absorbing and worthwhile.

Content

Wednesday, November 7:

Worry about R. keeps me awake. Why am I worried? R. observed to me yesterday how right Calderon was to say that the worst thing on this earth below was a happy love, for then one could only be the loser, living in dread rather than hope!

Nice drive in splendid weather to the Waldhütte. In the evening a paper by our old friend Constantin Frantz about present-day political parties; very admirable and absorbing.
