Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 28, 1877

Overview

The narrator thinks of Isolde and the loss her absence creates, while family concerns continue with Fidi suffering from recurring boils. A drive to the Fantaisie gives a change of scene, though R. feels unwell, and the evening is spent reading Darwin's work aloud.

Content

Friday, September 28:

Many thoughts of Isolde, who leaves a very great gap in our family circle. Poor good Fidi tormented by boils again.

Drive to the Fantaisie in fine weather. R. is somewhat unwell, perhaps through overexertion.

In the evening he reads us some passages from Darwin's The Descent of Man, which he is now beginning to read.
