R. writes to a supporter about the imminent meeting and jokes about understanding the substance of his work without knowing how to execute it. The day is marked by cold weather, and the evening is again spent reading Herodotus.
Monday, September 3:
R. writes to our patron Herr Schmidt, asking him to attend the meeting to be held here shortly.
At lunch he says jokingly, “I may know what, but not how” he means his work! Herodotus in the evening. The weather has already turned cold!
