Overview

On Liszt's birthday, Cosima sends a telegram and enjoys the first good night in a long time after Fidi sleeps through. Content

Friday, October 22:

Father’s birthday; sent him a telegram. First good night for a long time; Fidi slept from 11 to 6. R. unfortunately still rather unwell, but he keeps on working and seeks to help himself over it with a long walk.

Much fun with the children in the evening; R. lifts them high into the air, carries them on his back like Henry IV, etc. In the evening Don Quixote, the cave of Montesinos, absolutely splendid.

Great excitement in Switzerland over a book by the cantonal president about the instructional book used by the Jesuits in the seminary at Solothurn. It is certainly unbelievable!
