Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 19, 1877

Overview

This was a day of painful separation, marked by tears, fatigue, and the difficult examination of the little girl. By evening the emotional weight eased somewhat when Richard met the traveler in Neumarkt, and shared news that brought a measure of relief.

Thursday, April 19:

[In the margin: “Parsifal is finished!”] Final parting; a night of great sorrow. My little girl examined. She does not emerge from it well. Weeping, but no complaining. Left at half past one. Apathy!

Memories of another parting. In Neumarkt at 8 in the evening, R. was there to meet me; with Plutarch. He tells me the contents of telegrams between Prince Hohenlohe and himself. A cheerful evening, in spite of pain and worry, due to reunion!
