Friday, April 13:
Today R. completes the 2nd act of Parsifal and is cheerful and happy, despite the fact that there is again no lack of "rats and mice," as R. calls them.
For example, Herr Maziere writes to say that Messrs. Brandt, Bruckner, Hoffmann, and Doepler are demanding royalties for all performances of the Nibelungen everywhere, though they have already been overgenerously paid for their work, and that they have appointed Herr Batz their representative. R. says he cannot imagine how he will ever be able to compose Parsifal with all these bogeys constantly in his mind. He is thinking of securing Richter's release and transferring the whole thing to him and Heckel, under my control, just as if he were already dead, in order to ensure leisure for his work.
In the evening he inks in his penciled manuscript, while I write to Countess Voss.
