Tuesday, April 3:
Departure of my father; I accompany him as far as Neumarkt, where I watch him leave on the train to Meiningen; he covers his face as I wave to him for the last time - shall I ever see him again? Home at 1 o'clock, family lunch, in the afternoon London letters for me and R., who writes to Dannreuther and Wilhelmj; in the evening a letter from Mr. Hodge, complaints regarding the high cost of the singers; also, upsettingly enough, a telegram from Richter! He had refused to come to London to conduct the rehearsals; finally persuaded by R. while he was here, he was supposed to apply for leave, and my father wrote in that connection to Prince and Princess Hohenlohe. Now they would dearly like to repeat the game they played last year with Die Walküre... R. wanted to send Richter an indignant telegram, I beg him not to.
