Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 27, 1877

Overview

The day was consumed by unresolved practical troubles: confusion in London, tense negotiations with singers and officials, and repeated demands for written consent before anyone would release performers. Worry deepened after alarming reports from Ullmann suggesting the project might fail financially, though the visit from Feustel offered a brief human interruption.

The same life, with the addition that there is still much confusion in London, that we are still not at one with our singers, that Herr v. Hülsen and the Grand Duke of Schwerin, even the conductor Wiillner before releasing two students from the Conservatoire, etc., etc. On top of that, alarming letters from Herr Ullmann, giving his opinion that we shall not achieve financial success. He also talks about having received a dismal letter from Hans. Visit from friend Feustel.
