Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 14, 1877

Overview

Rehearsals continue relentlessly, while a report from Feustel revisits the political disappointment surrounding Bayreuth and the King’s inaction. Alongside the children’s work on Rheingold, the writer busies herself with preparations for Eva’s birthday. The day closes with a welcome return of sunshine.

Content

Wednesday, February 14:

Rehearsals still! In the evening I hear from Herr Feustel that Councillor DufHipp told him, in Munich, that he had played a very stupid role in Bayreuth, but he had known that the King had not intended to do anything more, and he had only been able to hope that the King might perhaps change his mind after R. had written to him; however, this had not been the case.

Rehearsals of Rheingold with the children, and for me various preparations for Eva's birthday.

At last, a ray of sunshine again.
