Tuesday, January 30:
Still rough and at the same time dirty weather, no chance of going out, but a good and peaceful atmosphere in the house arising out of my work with the children. In the evening, Thucydides.
At lunch R. told me that he had got over the worst in Parsifal; what is important is not the question, but the recovery of the spear. The scene between Kundry and the old man, Gurnemanz in the sketch, would describe the myth; the difficulty, R. says, is that one is now dealing with a world which has so little feeling for myth. R. also mentions that no one has expressed any delight in his device of allowing Wotan to appear in the figure of a wanderer.
Herr Plüddemann’s pamphlet gives him great pleasure, as also Herr v. Wolzogen’s reply to the articles of the singing teacher.
