Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 8, 1877

Overview

Hans’s birthday brought a solemn atmosphere, with repeated appeals to Daniella and prayers for her future devotion and his health. The evening turned to organizational matters around a proposed patrons' society, though a visitor was skeptical and practical concerns about the finances remained.

Monday, January 8:

Hans's birthday, earnest mood, exhortations to Daniella, prayer that her father may remain in good health and she become worthy of dedicating her life to him.

R. reads me his appeal for the foundation of a Society of Patrons. In the evening friend Feustel visits us, and this is also read to him; he does not seem to approve of it, he wants the festival to be announced right away, on account of the deficit.
