Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 27, 1876

Overview

The same rhythm continued: music and reading with Lusch, along with household tasks. Then Richter arrived unexpectedly, unable to bear Vienna and seizing a brief break to spend a day with us, which brought great joy. The visit revived memories of our old Tribschen life, and the evening ended with the Christmas tree, punch, fortune-telling with molten lead, and papers finally cleared away.

Wednesday, December 27:

Same life: music and reading with Lusch, domestic work.

On Saturday the 30th, sudden arrival of Richter, who could no longer bear Vienna and took advantage of three free evenings to spend a day with us. Great joy!

On the 31st, let the whole of our Tribschen life pass literally before our eyes, those distant, unforgettable times! Departure of Richter around midday.

In the evening lit the Christmas tree, drank punch, told fortunes with molten lead. After I had spent the day clearing away papers!
