Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 24, 1876

Overview

The Christmas tree occupied both morning and evening, giving the day a quiet, centered mood. R. was entirely taken up with Sismondi, and a letter from Professor Nietzsche was welcome even as it announced his rejection of Schopenhauer. The children were cheerful, and R. was especially gentle with me.

Content

Sunday, December 24:

Just the Christmas tree, morning and evening; for R., Sismondi, which wholly absorbs him.

Nice letter from Prof. Nietzsche, though informing us that he now rejects Schopenhauer's teachings!

The children cheerful, and R. exceedingly kind toward me.
