They made one last visit to the Uffizi, which felt like a melancholy goodbye, and then set off at seven in the evening. Bologna welcomed them at noon, and by night the children were still in high spirits at the Marienbad Hotel in Munich, while telegrams about Daniella kept arriving.

Sunday, December 17:

Once more the Uffizi, a melancholy farewell! Went for a drive with R.; departure at 7 o’clock. At 12 o’clock in Bologna, welcomed by our charming syndic. On the evening of the 18th, the children still in splendid spirits, in the Marienbad Hotel in Munich! Lengthy exchange of telegrams regarding Daniella.
