Overview

The day was given over to a fine walk to Aracoeli and a long, pleasant afternoon on the Palatine. In the evening, a reception at the German ambassador’s brought Herr Sgambati’s quintet, which deeply interested R. and left a strong impression of an able musician neglected in Rome.

Walked to Aracoeli; very fine morning and very fine afternoon, spent on the Palatine.

In the evening, quite a large reception at the German ambassador’s; Herr Sgambati played a quintet of his own, which genuinely interests R. and is very remarkable; this accomplished musician is entirely lost and neglected here.
