Lessons and music resumed, but the weather remained rough with sirocco and an agitated sea. R. was still worn out yet cheerful, and their conversation turned to Goethe, Faust, and Dante, while she read a historical account with indignation.

Tuesday, October 17:

Lessons for the children, resumption of music lessons. Sirocco; the sea rough. R. still somewhat worn out, but in cheerful spirits. Talked a lot about Goethe; Faust much more valuable than the Divina commedia, but less variability in it.
