Overview

Siegfried and Götterdämmerung brought the cycle to its conclusion, astonishingly exactly as planned, something no one had believed possible. At the end, R. spoke beautifully to the audience, introduced his artists, and said their faith in him had given him courage before he took leave of the King.

Wednesday, August 30:

Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, and thus, most astonishingly, the program which nobody thought possible has been adhered to. At the end of it R. addresses some fine words to the audience and introduces his artists, saying that it was they who had given him courage, by believing in him. R. takes his leave of the King.
