The King wrote in wonderfully appreciative terms about the performances and announced that he would return for the third cycle. The Duke of Meiningen and his wife also visited, adding to the day’s prestige. In the evening Rheingold was again strong overall, though Betz remained unusually lifeless.

The King writes quite wonderfully about the impression the performances made on him, and he announces his visit for the third cycle. Visit of the Duke of Meiningen and his wife. In the evening Rheingold, this time very good, except that Herr Betz is extraordinarily lifeless.
