Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 16, 1876

Overview

Guests came for lunch and in the evening, though the writer scarcely remembers the details. What he does remember is R.’s despair over the scaffolding still standing inside the theater, and the very different reactions he got from the people he complained to. Brückwald was apologetic, while Runckwitz answered with spite.

Content

Tuesday, May 16:

Some guests at lunch and in the evening, but practically all of it has vanished from my memory. The scaffolding, still in place inside the theater, plunges R. into utter despair. When he informs the architect Brückwald, the latter begs pardon humbly and nicely; the building supervisor Runckwitz, on the other hand, is very spiteful and rude.
