Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 30, 1876

Overview

The day is weighed down by routine domestic troubles and a mountain of correspondence, though the children’s quiet play in the garden brings a small calm. Doepler’s sketches for the Ride of the Valkyries arrive and please her, and the evening turns agreeable with conversation. She also notes a reassuring letter from von Hülsen promising support.

Sunday, April 30:

No boring domestic troubles, and for me much correspondence as well. With the little ones quietly in the garden, playing croquet.

The Arabian Nights; suddenly friend Doepler with his sketches for the Ride of the Valkyries, very fine. Pleasant evening discussing all sorts of things. Letter from Herr von Hülsen that he will do his best.
