Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 8, 1869

Overview

Lovely weather and lively children make for a quieter day, with Countess Bassenheim visiting and Richard writing to Cornelius, Schure, and Richter. Marie Muchanoff does not arrive, which leaves the household undisturbed. Cosima alternates between hope for Hans's future, melancholy, and delight in Siegfried.

Content

Wednesday, September 8:

Lovely summer days still, the children lively out of doors. Visit from Countess Bassenheim in the morning; R. somewhat better, writes letters to P[eter] C[ornelius], Schuré, Richter.

Nothing at all happened today; Marie Muchanoff did not come. At times feelings of hope that Hans's life might take a turn for the better, but then once more melancholy thoughts. Delight in Siegfried.
