Diary Entry of October 25, 1875

Overview

Farewells give way to a new visitor, Professor Gosche from Halle, who comes to report on their undertaking and is warmly received. At last they have the evening to themselves again, return to Goethe’s Annals, and note the unnoticed passage of the German Emperor through Bayreuth and the King’s growing popularity.

Monday, October 25:

Farewells. Shortly afterward, another visitor, Professor Gosche from Halle, who wants to report on our undertaking; very pleasant man, he was recommended to us by Hermann Brockhaus.

In the evening, happy to be alone together at last again, we continue with Goethe’s Annals. The German Emperor passed through Bayreuth at five o’clock this morning, but nobody knew about it. The King’s popularity is now quite unbounded, owing to his good behavior.
