Diary Entry of September 11, 1875
The day is given over to practicalities, with business arrangements and packing filling the hours. By late evening, after meeting with the architect Schulz and the Macedonian at Angermann’s, R. comes home in high spirits and offers a sharp reflection on how company can reveal a person’s difference from everyone else.
Saturday, September 11:
Business matters and packing. At lunchtime the architect Schulz and the Macedonian; R. fixes a meeting with them at Angermann’s.
He returns home late in good spirits: “The worst society and also, vice versa, the best company, will show you that you are not a man among the rest.”
