Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 8, 1875

Overview

R. felt somewhat better, and the morning conversation ranged over Gorres, though only within a Schopenhauerian frame of mind. A letter from the children later caused deep distress, and the day ended in bitterness again when Brandt the machinist complained that the people here made proper work impossible.

Tuesday, June 8:

R. somewhat better; we talk a lot in the morning about Görres’s book, bearable only on the foundation of a Schopenhauerian outlook. Around noon a letter from the children, causing great distress! ... What can I do? Bitterness.

In the evening another case of bitterness: Brandt the machinist disconsolate over the people here, says it is impossible to work with them.
