Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 3, 1875

Overview

Overtiredness brought on disturbing dreams, and the household mood was strained by fatigue, worry, and the endless practical demands of travel and domestic management. R. longed to return to work on Parsifal and Die Sieger, but money troubles, Munich's resistance, Frau Vogl's illness, and trouble with the eldest children made everything feel nearly unbearable.

Content

Saturday, April 3:

Last night, wild dreams, no doubt as a result of overtiredness. R. expresses his longing to be able to get down to work again. Parsifal. He also wants to write Die Sieger. I, too, wish we were rid of the whole business!

Visit from Feustel; the cost of gas equipment, etc., is enormous, and R. is very concerned about it. Munich definitely does not want R. Frau Vogl’s illness persists! Much grief for R. and me regarding the eldest children.

And on top of it all life’s muddles, household concerns, toilet, the journey - what chance?
