Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 17, 1875

Overview

Household disorder forced the diarist into a day of relentless work, especially over the linens, and Richard joked that she had married a housekeeper. A letter from Hans offered help toward the children’s extra expenses, giving hope that the money might instead be set aside for them. Richard also wrote to Councilor Duffl.

Wednesday, March 17:

I now have to take my badly disordered household in hand, and start right away, busying myself all day long with the linen. In the evening R. laughs and says, “I’m glad to see that I also married a housekeeper.” Letter from Hans, who offers me 2,500 francs toward the extra expenses for the children; I hope I shall not need to spend them, so that they can be added to the children’s savings.

R. writes to Councilor Duffl.
