Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 25, 1875

Overview

R. spent much of the day absorbed in Gfrorer, especially the mystics’ image of a silent stretch before judgment, which deeply moved him. I handled the children’s lessons and some visits while he dealt with business, all under harsh wind and snow. By evening Glatz had lost his voice, and I remained worried about the elder children.

Content

Monday, January 25:

R. reads a lot of Gfrorer: the seven-day silence before the seat of judgment in the books of the Jewish mystics makes a great impression on him. I give the children lessons and pay some calls. R. deals with business matters.

Very bad weather, wind and snow flurries. In the evening Herr Glatz is voiceless. Much worry about the elder children.
