Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 28, 1874

Overview

The newly finished hall delights R., but the atmosphere is shadowed by my persistent dread that things are headed toward trouble. Amid work on contracts, singers, and the theater, the day mixes satisfaction with unease, and even the thunderstorm seems to echo that tension.

Content

Sunday, June 28:

The hall finally furnished and looking lovely. R. very pleased with it, I haunted by the constant fear that we are heading for disaster.

R. wants to terminate his contract with Schott and writes to Herr Batz about it. Scaria works in the morning with Richter, and in the evening he shows us some of the results of his studying. In the afternoon we visited the theater. He admits that only now does he understand why R. wanted to build it.

Severe thunderstorm.
