Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 19, 1874

Overview

The day moves in a pleasant social rhythm, with an excursion to Fantaisie and lunch shared with the mayor and the dean. In the evening Wagner reads Fareval to the guests, and the entry closes on the writer’s own deep emotional response rather than any certainty about how others received it.

Friday, June 19:

Fine morning, drive with our friends to the Fantaisie; at lunch the mayor and the dean. In the evening R. reads Parzival to our two friends. Whether they appreciate it I do not know, but it again moves me unutterably.
