Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of August 17, 1873

Overview

Sunday was dominated by church attendance with the children, despite the sermon being a trial. Visitors came while R. worked, then a letter arrived from the diarist's father. Malwida von Meysenbug also came and was shown the house, as she was to live there permanently because of them. The diarist welcomed her warmly and hoped she would find some happiness in the place.

Content

Sunday, August 17:

In church with the children; put up with the wretched sermon for the sake of the children, but it is always a sore trial!

Received some visitors (R. working), then a letter from my father, and finally Malwida von Meysenbug, who because of us is coming to live here permanently; talked about many things, showed her the house.

I am glad that this outstanding woman has come to join us may she find some pleasure living here!
