Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 9, 1869

Overview

After a good night, Richard finds Cosima sleeping and later recites newly completed verses to her. She moves from bed to chaise-longue, the children leave for the Selisberg with Hermine, and the couple discuss Claire, Cosima's mother, and Charnace. Too much time out of bed brings evening pain and Richard's concern.

Content

Wednesday, June 9:

A good night; Siegfried somewhat restless. R. inquires after 7 o'clock and finds me sleeping. Then he comes to me at about 8 o'clock and recites the verse which he has just completed to his satisfaction.

Cheerful, harmonious day. From bed to the chaise-longue in the salon. R. has his meals upstairs. The children, except Eva, sent off to the Selisberg with Hermine; in the morning much together with them. They leave at 1.

Many things discussed: news from Claire about Alama and Charnace; Pasdeloup. In the evening pains: too long out of bed. R.'s concern.
