Friday, January 31:

R. arises very unwell and weary. When I return from the dentist's, I find him in bed; the doctor who visits him can discover no temperature, but advises as much rest as possible.

I go alone in the evening to Marie Schleinitz's, where Marie Muchanoff is receiving. Princess Biron, Frau von Rochow, Dr. Brandis, Baron Loen form a pleasant circle, and the conversation is lively. Returning home, I find R. in a deep sleep, thank God. He does not wake up.
