Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 27, 1872

Overview

A poor night's sleep in Wiesbaden led them to decide to move, and she wrote to the children from there. Mathilde visited for the afternoon, adding company to an otherwise unsettled day. R. wandered into the casino and nearly played, but ultimately held back, and he brought her a Gustavus Adolphus almanac as a small consolation.

Wednesday, November 27:

Not a very good night; the trains pass close to our hotel, the walls of the fortress rise forbiddingly outside our window. We decide to move to Wiesbaden, from where I write to the children. Mathilde comes over and spends the afternoon with us. R. strayed into the casino and was almost on the point of playing, but could not bring himself to do so. He brings me a good Gustavus Adolphus almanac.
