Diary Entry of November 22, 1872

Overview

She spent the morning with Marie Mucha and made the acquaintance of Frau von Staal, who was connected to the Russian diplomatic circle. After leaving for Strasbourg, they were greeted by their nephew Major Kessinger and then by Nietzsche, who appeared healthy, cheerful, and resilient despite his troubles. The day closed with a friendly family visit to the Kessingers, alongside R.'s favorable impression of the Stuttgart theater manager von Grunzert.

Friday, November 22:

All morning with Marie Much. Made the acquaintance of Frau von Staal, wife of the Russian ambassador and sister of Frau von Meyendorff. Departed at 11 o’clock, at 6 o’clock to Strassburg. Our nephew Major Kessinger puts in an appearance, and immediately afterward friend Nietzsche. He looks robust and well and is cheerful and in good heart, in spite of his experiences.

In the evening visit with the Kessingers, nice and friendly family chat. In Stuttgart R. made the acquaintance of the theater manager von Grünzert, whom he liked very much.
