Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 18, 1872

Overview

R. continued to sleep badly, while the narrator managed packing, shopping, and visits connected to the Wagner Society. An evening gathering at Dr. Zeroni’s brought a warmer atmosphere, with R. playing and singing excerpts from Siegfried and the Meistersinger. Zeroni’s toast moved the narrator deeply by praising the care she gave to R.’s life and genius.

Monday, November 18:

R. is still not having good nights. I have much packing and many purchases to attend to, also visits to the ladies of the Wagner Society.

In the evening a party at Dr. Zeroni’s; very nice. R. plays and sings passages from Siegfried and Die Meistersinger. Dr. Zeroni proposes a toast to me which touches me very much, saying that R.’s friends are pleased to see R.’s life and genius in my care!
