Diary Entry of November 13, 1872
The missing money still dominated the day, which was otherwise spoiled by bad weather, poor purchases, and a sense of wasted time. The narrator felt chilled and discouraged while agents pursued the matter without result. Relief finally came at midday when a telegram reported that the children were safe and the money had simply been left behind.
Wednesday, November 13:
Bad night, bad weather, and no news of the money. Also bad purchases. Much bad luck, a day completely lost! Caught a chill.
Finally the agents Voltz and Batz, still with no positive results to show, but fairly hopeful. At last, around midday, a telegram from Kätchen: the children are well and the 500 florins were left behind.
