Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of July 12, 1872

Overview

The heat was intense, and I spent time working with the children in the garden while R. managed only a few lines. He also had to deal with legal business connected to a theater manager in Chemnitz, and we both went to inspect the building site, where the work was moving ahead well. Returning home, we found the Kraussolds waiting, and later the Svendsens came by again. R. had hoped to secure copying work from them, but the composer himself showed little enthusiasm.

Friday, July 12:

Great heat, worked with the children in the garden. “A poet” wants to read poems to me!

R. works, “a few lines.” After lunch to town; R. has to visit the law courts in connection with a theater manager in Chemnitz. We visit our site, on which work is proceeding vigorously. R. is pleased to see it.

We return home at five o’clock and find the Kraussolds there. In the evening the Svendsens; R. had wanted him to do the copying, but he, himself a composer, shows no eagerness.
