Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of July 7, 1872

Overview

Herr von Gersdorff left in the morning, and the children went to church while R. kept working and I remained voiceless. Later we visited the Svendsens, who shared pleasant stories about Kassel. The evening was disturbed by the return of Herr Krebs, whose stubbornness and odd emotional strain became increasingly clear. He left bitter and unsettled, leaving us with an uncomfortable impression.

Content

Sunday, July 7:

Departure of Herr von Gersdorff. The children in church, R. at work, I and Fidi with our friend; still voiceless.

Afternoon visit to the Svendsens, who tell us all sorts of nice things about Kassel.

In the evening, the unhappy Herr Krebs again: his peculiarly obstinate insistence, despite anything one might say to him, suggests to our friend that he is emotionally disturbed. He departs in a bitter mood.
