Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 29, 1872

Overview

R. remains sleepless and drained, and even ordinary tasks feel heavy to him. The architect Wolffel comes to discuss the house, while Malwida walks without R. because he is too worn out to join her. Fine letters from Professor N. offer warmth and understanding amid the strain. The day is quiet, but the fatigue hanging over the household is unmistakable.

Wednesday, May 29:

R. still finds no rest; he is not yet sleeping well and everything tires him. Around noon the architect Wölfel, discussion about our house. Walk with M. Meysenbug, but without R., who is too run down.

Very fine letters from Prof. N. to R. and to me. Certainly few people have so much feeling for our sufferings and joys as he.
