Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 24, 1872

Overview

The unpleasant business discussion from the previous day leaves R. badly shaken and sleepless, and the morning is consumed by legal formalities with the two men acting for him. News from Friedrich Feustel only adds to the discouragement, since important contributions are not being collected as hoped. By evening, however, Schopenhauer gives some relief, and the simple fact of being together again restores a sense of closeness and love.

So a day of business. The two gentlemen have lunch with us and then go with R. to the law courts.

Letter from Friedrich Feustel: Baron Cohn is unwilling to collect the contributions, and Baron Loen does not write. Much vexation and despondency.

“The only beautiful thing in my life was you, all the rest was rather ugly!”

In the evening Schopenhauer, with great enjoyment. At least we are once more together and united; indescribable feelings of love for R.
