Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of December 29, 1871

Overview

Letters from Claire and Liszt arrive, the latter brief and despondent, while Bologna sends festive Lohengrin and Holy Grail delicacies. Wagner complains of frittering away time, yet much of the day is happily spent in conversation with the beloved nephew. A pleasant letter from Clemens closes the evening gently.

Content

Friday, December 29:

Letter from Claire; also from my father, short and despondent. Arrival of the Lohengrin cake and Holy Grail bread from Bologna!

R. says he is frittering his time away, and we really do spend a large part of the day talking to our dear nephew. In the evening a nice letter from Clemens.
