Overview

Wagner rejects war as an effective remedy for overpopulation. He argues that it removes the most vigorous people and thereby weakens humanity.

Content

Monday, August 2:

Fear of over-population of earth — war seen as necessary to prevent it. — War carries off — proportionately — only a small part, but this the most vigorous; thus war serves not as a remedy for over-population, but as a means of weakening the human race and causing its degeneration; it has, for example, swallowed up the great tribes of the Goths, and in return left us the lesser — unfortunately still recognizable today. — Villa d’Angri, Naples.
